Spatiotemporal Program – V10 Post Mining Reclamation of PT Adaro Energy

PT Adaro Energy Indonesia operates a major coal mining area located in Tabalong and Balangan Regencies, South Kalimantan Province. As a long-established mining company, Adaro has conducted post-mining land reclamation to restore ecological functions on previously disturbed sites. Using remote sensing technology, specifically Sentinel-2 imagery from 2016–2023, this study analyzes spectral characteristics of post-mining land and evaluates reclamation progress through vegetation indices such as NDVI, SLAVI, and RVI.
The spatiotemporal-based detection results show a clear increase in vegetation cover within the reclamation zone. In 2016, vegetated land covered approximately 342 ha, and by 2023 the area expanded significantly to over 1,234 ha, indicating successful revegetation efforts. Mapping results illustrate the gradual transformation from bare land to greener, vegetated landscapes. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of PT Adaro’s reclamation practices and highlight the potential of satellite-based monitoring for assessing post-mining land recovery.
